Dr. Ralph Benedict Receives Chancellor’s Award for Scholarly WorkPosted: June 4, 2015
Ralph Benedict, PhD, Professor of Neurology, has received the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities for the 2014-15 academic year. The award recognizes SUNY faculty who demonstrate a record of sustained scholarship in their field. Dr. Benedict is internationally known for his research into the cognitive impairments seen in multiple sclerosis, memory disorders, and other neurological diseases. He has developed scales that are used worldwide to assess cognitive function in multiple sclerosis and is actively investigating strategies to help patients with the disorder remain productive both at home and the workplace. Dr. Benedict also directs the neuropsychology service for the Department of Neurology and is heavily involved with the training of graduate and postdoctoral students. Dr. Benedict was the only faculty member in the UB School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences to receive the award this year. He was trained at Arizona State and Johns Hopkins universities and has been on the UB faculty since 1999.
