News from the Stroke Division

The UB Dept. of Neurology stroke team, led by Dr. Robert Sawyer, Associate Professor of Neurology and Vice Chair of Clinical Services, helped Kaleida Health secure Primary Stroke Center status from Det Norske Veritas Healthcare (DNV) for a three year term through September 2016.  DNV certification integrates requirements of the Center of Medicare/Medicaid Services and the American Stroke Association.

Dr. Christopher Deline, Assistant Professor of Neurology, who recently joined the department as a stroke provider, has won a Junior Investigator Travel Award from the American Heart Association.  While training as a stroke fellow at Washington Univ. in St. Louis, Dr. Deline contributed to a study comparing acute mortality after ischemic stroke across industrialized countries.  The study will be presented at the February 2014 International Stroke Conference in San Diego.
